A graduate of Columbia College Chicago with an MFA from Florida State University and an alumnus of Houston’s renowned HSPVA, he has performed with leading artists including Jeremy Pelt, Johnathan Blake, Ulysses Owens Jr. and Tim Warfield, while also establishing himself as a distinctive voice with his own quartet.
The Jalen Baker Quartet celebrate the release of their new album RePaved, a deeply reflective suite inspired by the history and cultural legacy of Jalen's hometown Houston, Texas’s 3rd, 4th and 5th Wards. Through the music, Baker explores landmark figures and places such as John Henry Yates, Freedman’s Town and Juneteenth, tracing the enduring impact of these communities on the city’s social and cultural identity.
Expect an evening of dynamic, intense contemporary jazz from a highly accomplished vibraphonist, building on the legacies of greats such as Stefon Harris, Warren Wolf and Joe Locke.
